A while back I started on our dining room makeover. I was very kindly gifted a dining room furniture set; china cabinet, table, and six chairs. To continue a neutral airy feel I painted everything white with pops of gold on the hardware.

When it came to the chairs, they were not my friend, to say the least. I did, however, love the big ‘X’ design on the back and the large cushions.

Now with a toddler, I knew I wanted removable chair covers. Something I could easily take off to wash and also something I could change up for different seasons, holidays, etc.

I couldn’t have been happier with how easy they turned out to be and how amazing they look!

Materials needed:

1/2″ elastic

Fabric of choice (my chairs required 4.5m)

Fabric scissors

Sewing machine

Begin by making your template. This will be for cutting all the material the same as well as later on if you decide to change up the fabric choice.

Lay your cushion right-side down and leave about 4″ of fabric on all sides. You will need enough to fold over to sew and also pull once the elastic is inserted. Fold your template in half, pin to fabric and begin cutting.

Pin your sew line with just enough room for the elastic to fit through.

Leave a small opening where you begin sewing for the elastic to be inserted.

**An easy tip for threading elastic is to attach a safety pin, then you can continue to feed and pull while holding the safety pin.**

Once your elastic is all the way around, insert your cushion and pull the elastic tightly.

Once you’re happy with the look, tie the elastic and cut it.

You can either sew the remainder of the opening closed or tuck the elastic under the cover. I decided to leave it open incase the elastic ever snaps and needs to be replaced.
