The starting point of any bedroom is a good bed. Not only do you need something that lets you enjoy your peaceful slumber in warmth and comfort, but since the bed acts as the focal point of the room, you need something that looks really good too. Unfortunately, big, beautiful beds can get very expensive, so if you can find the time to put your hands to work, then you can build your very own gorgeous customized bed for a fraction of the price.

Simple Wooden Frame

diningdeckdiyhow to diningdeckdiy for I really love the look of this bed frame because it seems very solid and sturdy. That headboard and the integrated light system is what really impresses me the most, though! And can you believe, the entire project only cost about $300 to make?

Floating Bed

This platform bed uses such a clever design that it truly looks as if the bed is hovering like some sort of alien space craft. Very futuristic! The indented platform isn’t visible when looking at it from a regular standing up position, and the lights underneath really just add to the drama.

Bed with Floating Nightstands

Sometimes I really marvel at the creativity of some people. I’ve never even thought of building floating nightstands on to a bed frame like this, but now that I’ve seen it, I can’t picture my life without it! If you’re keen on recreating this modern structure then all you’ll need is about $400 for all the materials. Not bad!

Frame with Wooden Headboard

This bed frame is nice, but I have to say that the headboard is the real showstopper for me. The reclaimed wood just looks so full of character! Thankfully, the process is quite a simple one; making something that’s sturdy and gorgeous isn’t actually that tough.

Ok, so this is going to sound strange, but trust that it’s pure genius. Someone came up with the brilliant idea to use doorless cabinets as the basis for a bed frame. This means that not only do you have minimum building work, but you now also have extra storage hidden away under there.

diningdeckdiyhow to diningdeckdiy for Not to sound like a whinger, but it would be worth noting for any person reading the comments before reading this article that you WOULD need access to some fairly serious home tools in order to build most of these. I dont have a jig, router, bandsaw, or anything like that (nor the space or funds to install the aforementioned).

Aso please check your article links, there seem to be some of these that are out of date the 1 last update 2020/07/06 now.Aso please check your article links, there seem to be some of these that are out of date now.

      Not really.
I do a lot of DIY furniture and other projects without any of the above.
My main tools are a drill/driver set, a circular saw, TWO work surfaces/workbench/old dinged up tables the same height – one by the wall and one I can move, and a few clamps.
I recently picked up a $15 hand sander, but then, my hands are getting a bit old for too much hand sanding 🙂
